How accurate is family medical history for predicting disease?
It is one of the strongest predictors clinicians have for common disease, and it deals in probability, not certainty. A close relative with a condition raises your odds of the same condition; it does not settle whether you will get it. What it does well is tell a clinician which screening to consider, and how early.
What if I don't know my family medical history?
Record what you do know and mark guesses as guesses. An approximate age written as approximate is more useful to a doctor than a confident wrong one. Then ask an older relative; a short call to whoever keeps track of the family usually fills the largest gaps.
Can my information be accessed by insurers or employers?
Not through us. Your record is encrypted on your device under a key we never receive, so no one at Relative Health Report can read it, let alone an insurer. The limit is downstream: once you share a family history with a clinician it can enter your medical record, and U.S. law (GINA) stops health insurers and most employers from using it but does not cover life, long-term-care or disability insurance.
